How and why do animals move in a particular way?I seek to understand the neuromuscular drivers and evolution of locomotion and feeding, which are critical to an organism’s survival and fitness.
I primarily study these questions in fishes, whose wide range of fin, body, and skull morphology enable these essential behaviors. The diversity of aquatic and marine species provides a unique framework for examining the evolution of morphology, kinematics, and biomechanics in locomotor and feeding systems. I am passionate about teaching, mentorship, and outreach in addition to my scientific endeavors. Download my full CV here (updated 1/2022): whitlow_cv.pdf |
